in the third round to advance to the quarterfinals of the U.S. Junior Amateur

Shelton fended off Spieth with a 1-up victory. In the afternoon, he took down
Lister by a 3 & 1 margin. Shelton advanced to face Anthony Paolucci.
Paolucci rolled over Andrew Fogg, 4 & 3, in the morning, before besting
Charles Martin, 2 & 1, in round three.
Denny McCarthy knocked out stroke-play medalist Curtis Thompson with a 3 & 2
win in the second round. McCarthy held off Devon Purser for a 1-up victory in
round three.
McCarthy will face Richard Jung in the quarterfinals. Jung rolled Sam Straka
by a 5 & 3 margin in round two. In the afternoon, Jung took down Ben
Warnquist, 3 & 2.
Scott Wolfes had a pair of close matches Thursday. He beat Aaron Kunitomo 2-up
in the morning, then needed 19 holes to take down Zachary Wright. Wolfes will
battle Justin Thomas in the quarters.
Thomas blitzed Khaled Attieh, 5 & 3, and came back with a 2-up win over Jorge
Fernandez Valdez.
The last quarterfinal match pits Gavin Hall against Jim Liu. Hall hung on for
a 1-up win over Alexander Schauffele in the second round, before routing
Jonathan Garrick, 5 & 3.
Liu had two easy wins Thursday. He trounced Davis Womble, 8 & 7, in round two.
In the third round, Liu cruised to a 4 & 3 win over Cody Proveaux.
The third round was completed early Thursday evening at Egypt Valley Country
Club after a lengthy weather delay.
The quarterfinal and semifinal matches are on tap for Friday and the 36-hole
championship final is slated for Saturday.
