Phoenix, AZ (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Los Angeles Dodgers catcher Russell Martin
will miss four to six weeks of action due to a pulled groin muscle.
The injury will sideline Martin for the remainder of Spring Training and
Opening Day. Dodgers manager Joe Torre said that rookie A.J. Ellis will get
the majority of work with Martin out. Brad Ausmus, 40, is the backup catcher.
Martin apparently suffered the injury during a base-running drill earlier in
the week. He then aggravated the groin when he stole a base in Friday's game.
The two-time All-Star had an MRI on Saturday, which confirmed the injury.
Martin will be sent to Los Angeles for further medical exams.
In 143 games last year, Martin batted .250 with 53 RBI and seven homers.

Green enters a crowded backfield in New York, but considering both Thomas Jones and Leon Washington are unhappy about their contract situations and might holdout, the former Iowa product could become the Jets' primary back.
Everyone was shocked when Al Davis took Heyward-Bey with the eighth overall pick in April's draft, but the kid has a tremendous amount of talent and if quarterback JaMarcus Russell takes the next step this year, the former Maryland product could blossom. Plus, Heyward-Bey will be looking to prove the people wrong who said Oakland should have taken Michael Crabtree with the No. 8 pick.
